Mowing the Lawn

The Owsley's lawn mower took a break out on our patio for the last couple of days while they got caught in the rain while mowing the grass, and Rowan has become fascinated by the machine. Now that he is walking, he decided to "mow" the patio.

Walking and Beatboxing

Here are a couple of new videos (and two of my favorite yet!). The first is one of Rowan beatboxing. One of the happiest days of my life is when Rowan started imitating Biz Markie on his favorite TV show Yo Gabba Gabba by replicating his beatbox sounds. If Rowan grows up to love hip-hop and soccer my life will basically be complete.



In the second video Rowan is starting to really enjoy the lion that Gram and G-Dawg gave him for his birthday this year. Here is a tour of our apartment via Rowan walking the lion.

The Final Four

The final four begins today, and anyone who knows me (Josh), knows that I am a big North Carolina Tarheels men's basketball fan. When I was in 3rd grade I played on a basketball team called the Tarheels, and that year I had a really great time and was defensive player of the year. It meant a lot to me, so I asked my dad if the Tarheels were a real team (I had already liked the Lakers at that point in direct opposition to my dad's favorite Celtics) and he told me that they were in fact a real team, but that they were a college team, not a pro team like I usually watched. Pops also told me that the Tarheels had a really good coach, Dean Smith, and that one of my favorite Laker players James Worthy also had played for the Tarheels. (Believe it or not, Micheal Jordan being a Tarheel was not a selling point at the time, since his Bulls and my Lakers were rivals.) So I started watching the Tarheels and even though they had some rough years for a while, it is really fun to see them play in back to back Final Fours. Let's just hope that the outcome is a lot better than their blowout loss to eventual champions Kansas last year.

So with all that said, thanks to his auntie Lashelle and his uncle John who gave Rowan this awesome shirt as gift before he entered the world, I thought I'd share with you a couple of pics from Rowan sporting Tarheel blue and practicing his game faces.

Swimming

Rowan and Maggie (with Shey and Kristen of course), are getting some swim lessons from Kathy (Shey's mom) over at the new aquatic center in Warrenton. It is fun to hear their stories from the day, and last week I was able to go with Shey one afternoon to see Rowan get in the pool for the second time. It is a lot of fun to watch...to see him kick his little feet and take in his surroundings. Here is a video from our trip last week during Thanksgiving break. I'm sure in the near future we will see some more pics and/or videos of Rowan and Maggie's swimming adventures! Enjoy!

A Rice Cereal Adventure!

So the little guy is entering into the realm of food at 5 1/2 months old. This week he got his first helpings of rice cereal. Each day has gotten a little bit better, as Rowan takes the spoon better and has been more interested in the cereal as the days have gone on. Although the picture above is cute, the video below documents the end of his first excursion into foods, and well...I think his gags speak for themselves!

We have finally caught Rowan on film laughing a little. It truly is one of the most amazing sounds...Enjoy!

4 Months Old!

Rowan is getting big fast. Here is the monkey pic to commemorate 4 months for our little man. Seriously, he is cute. I know I'm biased, but I love him!

growing up fast...3 months old

Shey and I can't believe how fast Rowan seems to be growing and doing new things. Rowan hit three months this week, and so the new monkey picture is above. This past week or so, Rowan has started to really become aware of his hands, and he has actually started holding some toys, and now, can even hit his toys every once and a while by himself. This morning before church, he even held a rattle with both hands and brought it up to his mouth and played with it all by himself! So below, we have a video of him talking with Shey and hitting his toy. Also, Shey's mom, Rowan's Katie Nana, turned 50 on Thursday, and we took some pictures of the little man to commemorate the occasion! Happy 50th to Kathy! So besides the video, we also have a few of the latest pics of the Rowan! We hope folks are well!

A soccer star is born

We are trying to raise the next Ronaldo, David Beckham, Pele, or choose your favorite soccer star. Rowan is already starting to work on some of his footwork, and of course, we are not surprised in any way that he is enjoying playing the best sport ever created. World Cup 2026 (or 2030) here we come!

for G-Dawg

So my dad has decided in act of preserving his "hipness" (or rebellion against the notion of being a grandfather at a young age) that he would like to be called "G-Dawg." Not G-Dog, but the mid-1990's slang noun, dawg over dog. Word. In this spirit and in an homage to the bulldog tattoo on his arm, G-Dawg has bought a bulldog stuffed animal and a cool outfit with a bulldog on it for our main man Rowan. Here's a couple of cute pics dedicated to G-Dawg from the young puppy, Rowan. And also a pic with G-Dawg trying to convince Rowan of the need to root for the Patriots and Red Sox. What G-Dawg doesn't know is that we have told Rowan that baseball is an imaginary game that they only play on TV, and that soccer is a much better and real sport.
